I don't always know where a painting is going when I start it, and this guy is a perfect example.
I had the stag in mind, but the colours just took over. The reds and oranges came first, then the deep purple crept in around the edges and suddenly he had this whole other energy. I put my brush down at one point and just looked at him. He felt like something quite spiritual.
I call him Spirit Stag because that's what he looks like to me. He's not a countryside stag, he's something even wilder than that. And he looks straight at you, which is powerful in a painting. Once he's on your wall he'll find you wherever you are in the room.
He's painted on a deep-edge canvas, so he's ready to go straight up, no frame needed. Big, bold and full of impact.
He's listed in the shop now if you'd like to bring him home.
