I painted this during the first months of the pandemic, when most of us were stuck indoors and needed somewhere else to put our attention. I filled canvases with imagined wildflower gardens and wildlife and this was one of the first.
The two hares aren't busy doing anything. They're just sitting together in a moonlit garden, calm and alert. People seem to find them reassuring. It's the kind of image that's easy to live with, but with enough colour and detail to keep drawing you back in.
The cool teals, turquoise and indigo of the moonlit palette are relaxing and soothing.
The original sold early on, and the print has stayed popular ever since, on both canvas and paper. I still get messages about it. Friendly company, someone once called it - a nice description!
