The Anchor
A lovely colourful canvas print of my original painting 'Fiddich and Spey'. This piece features two Highland Cow friends in vibrant warm colours. The spirit of friendship and fun is what I like most about this one!
The Concept
When styling a room around a statement piece with such warm, spicy colours, the instinct is often to match those tones everywhere. Instead, we wanted to create a crisp, modern look. By using a deep, cool navy as the backdrop, we counteract the orange tones and allow the painting to become the undisputed star of the room. The result is a clean, editorial, modern luxe space that feels sophisticated.
The Colour Story
Every accent colour in this room is drawn directly from the canvas, but the balance is completely different. The deep Hague Navy wall picks up the cool lavender-blue sky in the painting. By keeping the main furniture in neutral oatmeal and ivory, the vivid warm golds, burnt oranges, and hot magentas from the cows' wild shaggy hair are allowed to pop dramatically as deliberate, careful accents.
Building the Room
The Feature Wall. We chose a deep, inky navy blue for the feature wall. It creates a crisp, high-contrast backdrop that instantly modernises the warm, spicy colours in the canvas.
The Sofa: A low, modern, curved boucle sofa in a warm oatmeal linen colour anchors the room. It provides a soft, inviting texture without competing visually with the artwork.
The Rug: A simple, natural jute rug with a clean navy border ties the floor to the feature wall. It adds organic texture while keeping the overall look clean and uncluttered.
The Plants: A large fiddle-leaf fig in a simple white ceramic pot brings architectural greenery to the space, adding life without adding fuss.
Lighting and Accessories
Warm brass accents - a slim picture light and an arc floor lamp - highlight the golden tones in the painting. We added a few jewel-toned velvet scatter cushions in deep magenta and warm gold to pull those specific colours down from the canvas into the room.
