Braemar looks as though she would rather be checking whether daisies are edible.
There is a very soft expression on her face, though she won't stand still for long if wildflowers are nearby. She has the look of a Highland cow who has spotted something more interesting just beyond the edge of the painting, possibly a butterfly, possibly lunch.
This framed canvas print is taken from my original oil painting of Braemar, one of my Wildflower Cows, surrounded by flowers, foliage and small painterly details. I wanted her to feel as though she had wandered into the middle of the meadow and paused there for a moment, with copper hair, dark eyes and a few flowers getting rather close to her nose.
The colours are warm and full of movement, with rich copper, orange and russet tones sitting against deep blues, greens and little touches of pink and white. The black frame gives the print a clean edge, which helps all that colour feel settled enough for a home rather than charging around the room unattended.
I always like seeing these pieces in a lived-in setting, because it gives a better sense of how they behave once they are away from the studio wall. Braemar brings a lot of warmth to a hallway, living room or reading corner, especially in a room with soft neutrals, natural wood, ceramics, greenery and a few colour notes picked up from the painting.
