I called him A Gentleman Caller because that's exactly what he is. He's the sort who'd turn up at your door with a basket, and you'd be so glad he came.
There's something wonderfully comforting about hares, isn't there? Those tall, listening ears and that quiet, watchful presence. When I painted him, I wanted to capture that feeling of a welcome visitor - someone you could happily chat with while you prepare dinner, or someone to keep a quiet watch over a cosy corner of your home.
The colours surrounding him are some of my absolute favourites. I wanted a palette that felt like a warm sunrise, full of joy and energy. The blazing reds, the warm oranges, the deep hot magenta, and that vivid peacock teal at the bottom - they all work together to make his golden-brown coat really sing.
