I decided to paint something that felt like a reassuring and spiritual presence. The kind of painting you glance at last thing at night and just feel good about.
He's a barn owl, and there's something almost pearlescent about him. A soft pale shimmer that you get with barn owls in real life. I have experienced a barn owl perched on my wrist- they are truly magical. I wanted to keep that. So I put him against a deep night sky with the Milky Way doing something spectacular behind him, all that blue and gold, and let him just sit there in front of it, completely still, keeping watch.
The blues in this piece are really vibrant and the texture of his feathers came out beautifully in print. He comes unframed, ready to hang. 
He'd suit a bedroom, a landing, a reading corner. Anywhere that could do with something calm and a little bit shimmery on the wall.
